50 H.P mercury blueband

i have just acquired a 50hp blueband motor . i'm trying to locate a timing belt for it..or the dimensions of it as it is missing.(lost when it snapped) anyone point me in the right direction????thats the first problem, second problem is i cant work out what year it is as the serial number starts with 9006***. again can anyone help???thanks

The timing belts are readily available at the dealer.

They rarely fail, except for when the distributor, and it's bearings are failing.

All mercury with distributors or magnetos use the same belt Mercury # 20140

thanks for the advice, the problem is i'm in england and can't find a supplier, searched the net ...can i just clarify, what you're saying is any merc with a magneto has the same belt???? if so can someone give me the sizes? and pitch of the belt and i can go to the local transmission suppliers to get a matching one. like i said i don't have the old belt to compare to,
