50 hp force

I like to know if anyone can tell me why my motor keeps rising out of the water when I engage reverse? I've looked for some type of locking device with no success. I have a 50 hp Force motor.

Those locking parts can be ordered from a local Merc Dealer. I just recently put new parts on my 50.<br />

Is it something someone with a moderate mechanic knowledge can do??

There is a locking device there (at least my Force 50 has one). It's on the front of the engine below the power head. Mine even has a sticker pointing it out. Turn the knob one way, it locks the engine (you can guess there rest).
