I have a 1995 50hp (J50TLEDS), the plan was to repair the powerhead. After honing the damage cylinder, the dimensions spec out to .050" oversize. The pistons I have found only go to .030" over. So I will be looking at a used powerhead.
What years of powerheads will be a exact match to the 1995 powerhead? Sellers are telling me that I can use pre 90's to replace mine but the information out their is confusing.

Re: 50 hp powerhead replacement

first off J50TLEDS is a 1996 model number. So you have the twin cylinder and not the 3 cylinder. I am not an expert on these but my cross reference shows crank case matches from 95-2005 any 40 or 50hp twin cylinder for that motor. Looks like they made a few changes from 94-95 with the cylinder heads and thermostat housing. Not sure that this means you cannot use a pre 95 block or not?
