50 hp warning horn help..sounds off every now and then

i just bout a 86 glasstream 160v bass boat. it has a evinrude 50 hp mod# e50belcd ser#g 1097910<br />i have taken the boat out 4 times, when i turn the key before i start it i here the horn sound,and after starting the motor it will beep every now and then about every 4-5 min. at idel. just a short beep. and while im running at about 3200 rpms it will beep ever so often.where do i start on troubleshooting this prob.and also if you could tell me what year this motor is, that would be great.<br /> thank you for taking your time and reading..

Guess its the fuel restrict alarm that sounds.<br />When you have a real fuel restrict problem the horn will beep constant, but if it's just close to fuel restrict you can get what you are describe.<br />Take a look at the fuel hose and also check that you dont got some stuf in the engines fuel filter.<br />Its pretty easy to solve out.

Hello Ben and welcome to the forums.<br /><br />What you are probably hearing is the VRO low oil reservoir alarm. Check the level in the oil reservoir is up. If the reservoir is up, look under the engine cowl for a two wire, wire that looks like a lamp cord. One end will have a connector on it. Pull this apart and see if the problem re-occurs. If not and the reservoir level is well above a 1/4 tank (approx.), then the sending unit in the tank is probably bad.<br /><br />Keep us posted as to what you find....thanks!

i found the wire that looks like a lamp cord and traced it back to my oil bucket, to be 100% that it was the one that goes to my sending unit in the oil bucket ... i disconnected the wire and headed to the lake ..the only beep i heard was when i first turned the key..what am i to expect when changing this thing and how do i know i have picked the right one to buy? another thing about this motor is it is ideling to low and i would like to turn it up a little..while i was on the lake i turned the ideling screw 2 full turns and could not even tell i did any thing.. i think my tach is bad because it seeme to be jumpy from time to time, and only reads 3200 at wide open.my prop is a 15p.but back to the idel , the tach dosent even register at idel. <br /><br />thank you for your help<br />ben
