I was looking online for some info about painting with rustoleum and found this site. I don't know anything about painting and wet sanding but it seemed like a good tutorial. I thought it might be a good reference material for some people in this forum.

Very cool! From the pics, it looks like it turned out really well. Would like to know how long it holds up for.

Yeah, the pics look great. I think he said it was a year old now and still looks good. I think for a boat it would be great, a car maybe maybe not, but I guess if I were rebuilding a car right now I would have to do a $50 paint job :D I'm hoping to start doing this on mine this spring. Too cold in MN to do this in the winter

Yep, I've read that site before.

Take-away from it: Prep work and paint technique are everything. Sand until you're sure you're done, then do it again for just as long.

Even cheap paint can look great with lots of prep and careful application.

I wouldn't use that paint on a boat myself.. if I recall his later comments right it started to have problems relatively soon... I'd hate to see what water would do to it.

Like I said, I wouldn't do it on a car nor would I do it on a nice boat. But if you happen to see my boat I think a sharpie marker would do a better job :D I'm guessing that the marine rustoleum would work better.

I've been through a few manufacturer courses on several different brands of paint, Ralph Lauren, Glidden, Behr, Kelly Moore and Rustoleum to name a few.

There is no such thing as a waterproof one part paint. The best you can hope for is water resistant and that does not apply to products that are submerged.

People think that Tightbond III glue is water proof. Well it's kind of the same thing as paint. It's water proof as long as it's not submerged and subjected to the hydraulic forces of water.

Unless I was really short of cash and absolutely needed my boat to be in the water as soon as possible, I would not paint my boat with Rustoleum.

Who knows though, given the right circumstances, you might just get away with it.

After you've done the required prep work let's see how you feel about using that paint.

Thanks, I'll look into that. It will be a while before I get to that point.

Hi,

Sharp looking Corvair. Can't tell you what to do but her's another $50 choice.

Prices are a little different here than what they are from alot of the other marine paint companies.

I've used their bottom paint, topsides uraglow and clear high-gloss (?varnish?)without any disasters but I am not a pro-painter.
