I replaced the impeller in my lower unit on my 1985, 50hp mercury. I am having trouble getting the lower unit to go back into the rest of the motor. I tried with the motor in the locked up position in neutral. I cannot get the splines to line up. I have tried turning the flywheel a little at a time and have not hit the right spot yet. What should I try next? ARE THERE ANY TRICKS FOR THIS PROBLEM? Also I had to drop the motor to down position to put it in my garage last night. I will have to put it in gear to bring it back up is this a problem? I f so what do I do next.

shamp

putting that lower unit back in can be tricky. I just did it in my 125 force and it took me and another guy to put it back. Sounds like you are doing all you can. Try having someone push the lower unit up while you turn the fly wheel. eventually you will get it. As for bringing the motor back up in gear, should not be a problem.
