I purchased a new 25Ft pontoon boat back in 1997 with a Bigfoot 50HP 4-Stroke. (Carb not EFI). Back when I purchased it I noticed some odd power trim behavior that my dealer told me was normal that I still don't believe.

1. I cannot raise the trim when the boat is going over 5 MPH. (Was told this is to prevent over trimming and popping the unit out of the water)

2. When I get it trimed above strait up and down (3/4 trim) and give it power it slowly goes back to strait up and down.

If this is not correct behavior please let me know what to look for.

You are triming the engine too high. The trim is only about 20/23 degrees, the rest of the engine movement is tilt, the tilt has valve that only holds at idle. If you need more trim, you can install wedges between the boat and motor.
