I'm thinking of buying this motor from a friend. I checked the compression 125 125 122 105. The 105 has me concerned. Any suggestions?

Re: 50hp compression

That fourth cylinder is out of spec, CU2N. The most commonly quoted spec is a 10%-15% spread and you have a 20% spread.

That could be caused by something as simple as carbon buildup or as awful as a scored cylinder.

You didn't mention the year of the engine or the price you are considering.

There would be risk in buying the engine. You have to decide if it is worth the price based on age and risk.

Good luck. :)

Which cylinder is reading the 105psi?

Did you run the engine prior to checking the compression.. Ensuring fuel/oil got to each cylinder prior to testing may make a difference...

I heard of a guy having a 25psi increase after warming it up...

But I'd be a little skiddish...
Good luck and let us know...
