Might be a safe bet to run a little extra oil through it..but other than that it sounds like it will live.

TMD

Just had the same experience with my FATHER IN-LAW'S boat. In addition to what you did, I tore down the carb, filled cyls and case with Sea-Foam "Deep Creep" while I did that, bamn, no problem and it runs better than when I started :D

How did the engine part company with you? I have never gotten my engine to jump before, must have scared it good!

Maybe if you give the engine a li'll extra attention and TLC next time, perhaps it won't "jump" away on you again.

ps. if it was dropped in salt water try getting some "salt away" or an salt inhibitor that will make sure your bearings etc. wont rust out on ya.

cartoper
hit a freek wave which cause the nose to dive
scared the hell out of me thought i was going to die. it thru me some 20 feet out of the boat.
tlc only just finish complete over haul if i gave it any more i'd have to marry it(LOL). Re: 50hp evinrude gone for a swim

I had a 25 HP Johson years ago, transom cracked on very old wooden piece of crap boat and the motor went diving, in saltwater too. Retrieved the motor and ran it for about 2 or 3 hours, coated it with wd-40, and then ran a full 6 gallon tank through it at idle with a little extra oil mixed in. It took about 5 or 6 hours to get through the gas and I had no other problems with it, sold it to a friend a couple of years later and he still uses it today with no problems, so I think you will be O.K.. Good Luck.
