Hi i need to get a manual to do the electrics on my outboard. i know from a previous post that the lower unit is an evinrude 50hp from 1973 but the cover is from a johnson 50hp hyro electric drive. i am trying to work out wether it is just the cover thats been change or the power head as well. How can i tell if its Johnson or a evinrude power head. unfortuantly the core plug with the serial no is not there.

It should not make a difference as up until recently the only difference that I know of between Johnson & Evinrude was the color of the paint.

You might could post a picture with the cover off. Some of the "old pros" here may be able to ID the year. Also you could check in the reference section of your library.
