50hp Johnson Stalling in Gear

Recently had problems getting engine from half throttle to full without stalling. I rebuilt carbs, and she ran great for a month or more.<br /><br />Now, I am smoking,(white smoke)and at idle I stall out when I try to go into gear. After a few times stalling, I am able to get it going fine. Any suggestions, stripper season is coming soon<br />

Do you pre-mix fuel/oil or does that engine have VRO?<br />Backlash

I mix the fuel 50-1 (6gallons fuel/16oz oil)

OK, that eliminates one possibility. <br />I'd take a look at your spark plugs & run a compression test. I suspect a bad head gasket. Let us know what you find.<br />Backlash

I'm betting dirty carbs again. Did you clean them with spray cleaner or soak??

OK-Spark plugs look good, did not do a compression test. I cleaned Carbs AGAIN, found gooey like substance in carbs and it dried like salt grainy chips. Started it up and idle just took off (REALLY HIGH IDLE) don't know what to do.<br /><br />Also, in the silencer, should there be an air filter. I also think I am missing a plug on the front of the silencer.<br /><br />Thanks for all your help so far!
