50HP Mariner 4Cyl 2 Stroke

Serial # 6367525 Don't know the year. Try to start in the morning, sounds like there is no spark, can smell fuel after a few cranks. Seems to flood out real easy. After it sits for 1hr 30min then it seems to start . Can't seem to start it at the dock anymore. I turn the key while pushing in and can't hear any fire at all, only the smell of fuel. New sparkplugs and plug wires. No help. Any quick fixes?

Compression, spark, and fuel, all in the right amounts, and your motor will fire. I'd check in that order. Compression test and if everything is OK there, move on to spark. You should have a strong blue spark that can jump a 1/2 to 2/3 inch gap on all cylinders. I'm assuming your cranking battery is fully charged as well.

If all is good there, then move on to fuel.

I've asked all of these questions myself over the last year. They're all covered in multiple posts on the forum and in the FAQs. Seems like the old salts around here are getting tired of repeating themselves.

The compression on all cylinders was 120. I did find a 20amp inline fuse that checked good but replaced it anyway the engine poped right off on the next crank. I hope that was the main problem.
