50hp merc shifting problem

I recently installled a new impeller late 60s early 70 motor spent days lining up shiftshaft finally got it today where it will shift in forward nuetral and reverse but seems to bind when putting in forward have to really put some force to it to get it in forward but it does go in,it goes in nuetral and reverse very easy,any suggestions?

not really sure the solution with ur motor but maybe u need to lube something up grease some fitting? also check inside motor make sure nothing is bining against linkage

Got. Problem fixed cable binding before I put back on boat want to make sure ,when motor is running I shift into forward and prop is turning counter clockwise,when I shift into revrse it's turning clockwise is this correct?

i guess so i mean look at the prop at which way it spins u know foward reverse thrust in water

I know it seemed like a stupid question but it took me at least 20 tries just to get the shaft aligned correctly, to get the gears back, i bolted motor back together.Then today i went out on my other boat that has a 25hp evinrude on it,i noticed when i started the evinrude and put it in forward the prop was spinning clockwise not like the mercury when the mercury is in forward gear it is spinning counter clockwise,Did not make sense to me the mercury is not on a boat yet i was trying to save myself some grief before i put it on my other boat.

can u get a pic of u prop. if its the same as my motor if should turn clockwise in foward and go foward lol
