50hp tiller

I have a 82 50 hp johnson that I am trying to convert to a tiller. I purchased a 84 evinrude 40hp tiller. everything seemt to match well and I have it bolted on and the shifter rod and throttle cable connected but it doesnt seem right. I ordered a manual but it hasn't come yet and im itching to get it working. Is it possible that somebody might have a similar motor and have a picture of how everything is connected or a site that I can go to to help out. one last question. How much rotation is there in the tiller grip. I get about a 1/4 turn and it doesnt seem to open the throttle all the way.

Shift it into forward. Does it turn all of the way then?

I tried shifting and no change. I included a couple pictures of how far it rotates. I only get about an inch of travel at the throttle cable end and I need about two inches. In the first pic i dont know what the two arrows and the dot mean and it looks like it should rotate back more but it will not. Any thoughts.
