Ok so I have a 50 hp johnson 1996 and the tilt and trim was leaking around top of cylinder bore wiper. I bought the new cap and came with the seal, installed this on the motor filled with fluid and now it holds when tilted up and does not leak but now when I trim the motor down it leaks fluid around top of cylinder bore. Has anyone ever had this trouble. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It is slick I cleaned and checked for that. It does not start leaking until it is all the way down, then it starts leaking fluid. Before I replaced the cap and new seals it leaked all the time did not matter what position it was in

Boobie, there is also air still coming out around wiper but only when it is all the way down as far as it will go. Could it possibly be that I still have air trapped.

Cycle it up and down a few times checking the fluid level each time it's full up.

I did that still same thing, the only thing that might be different on the install is the ball bearing and the poppet and springs. They all came out the poppet valve is back in the original hole but is there a difference in the springs. But if so that is not being used when it's in the down position is it.

A dumb question. The poppet valves and springs aren't upside down by chance ?? I said it was a dumb question..

Ok so I figured it out duh! Boobie they were in correctly, but I took it back apart and found that I forgot to tighten the nut up all the way on the end of cylinder shaft and it was causes fluid to leak by. Thanks Boobie for all you help. Lesson end learned double check everything lol maybe this will help someone else down the road.
