I have a 50hp Evinrude on a pontoon boat. We were out on the river today running perfect. When I went to stop the boat I almost couldnt get it out of forward. I had to use a lot of pressure to move the shifter back into neutral. In fact I broke the shift trying to move it into reverse. Once I got it out of gear and into neutral I shut the motor off. Now it will crank but wont go into forward or reverse.
I have checked the shift cable and it is working correctly. When I manually shift the drive and spin the propellor clockwise it spins freely. When I spin it counter clockwise it wont spin. This is same for forward and reverse. It is not reversed. It spins the same both ways. The lower unit was just recently worked on.
I also noticed a little oil from that gas mixture was dripping from the back of the propellar side of the motor. It was coming from right above the water hole. I guess that is the exhaust? It wasnt enough oil to really be freaked out over I dont guess.
Any help would be appreciated.
