A friend has "LOANED" me this old 3hp '50's Evinrude "Lightwin" 3.
It starts and rev's ok but as the RPM drop to idol. The magneto(?) arcs to the throttle actuator arm.
I am new to boat motors but can turn a wrench.
Does someone know what can cause this and/or what can fix this. Can arcing be circumvented by painting RTV (or other HV insulator) onto magneto windings OR?

This particular boat motor neophyte would be grateful for any assistance.

Thanx
Dave

I'm just guessing but check the plug wire back to the coil. Maybe the insulation is gone and letting the wire arc. High temp silicone can fix that one. Each plug has its own coil on that engine...

Thanx Cap'n Bill,
Will do.
Strange though. It was late in the evening, around sunset when I noticed the arcs&sparks. In the low light, it looked just like the magneto on the underside of the fly wheel of Briggs & Straton.
Today we'll let Mr. Silicon RTV have a closer look.

Ouch,....!
Drat,... musta grabbed the wrong end of the screwdriver again!
