Sounds like the carb float is not opening all the way. A little fuel getting by will fill the bowl but once the motor starts not enough fuel is coming in to keep it running long. The fact it starts and revs mean the adustable needle valve must be close. Have one of these but a year or so older. Haven't run it in years but do remember adjusting the valve a lot depending on what speed I was running the motor.
