I was curious if a '54 7.5hp evinrude block bolt onto a '57 johnson midsection? I was hoping one would and work perfectly if I change out the intake manifold and cylinder head from the '57 johnson onto the '54 evinrude block. My 7.5hp johnson block is bad and I may have found a '54 7.5hp that might work.
Thanks,
JBJ

Not 100% sure, but I think the answer is no. Er, that is yes it will bolt up but the gasket pattern is different. At least I know the '57 gasket won't work on the '54 midsection. What I don't know for certain is whether or not the pattern was also changed on the block.

The driveshafts differ in length as well. When you bolt that powerhead up, she will seize up.

I seem to recall going through this same thing last summer, but I was trying to swap gearcases.

Dang, I've been looking for a while for a powerhead for this thing. Seems like parts are getting harder and harder to find for the old motors. I guess the hunt is half the fun.....
I sure do appreciate the info!

Hightrim, you know this is not my only outboard, so don't go to any trouble on that!! I think I have about 10 outboards from the '50s. :) But I love to hear one crank up the first time. I got this one in pieces on a trade a while ago, and it has a totally new ignition, water pump assembly, and carb kit. The pistons were shoddy and the crank was rust pitted....
Thanks,
