Hi,

I have a 54 fleetwin (7516) in need of new coils and condenser, points, wires, etc. I thought it was starting to drop a cylinder last time I took it out last season, and now it starts, misfires, and dies out after less than a minute of idling.

anyone have part numbers or a diagram?

Re: '54 Fleetwin Ignition part numbers

Update: Well, I guess I was a bit too suspicious of those coils... I did a bit of tooling with the carb and got it running fairly smoothly. Didn't adjust the high speed jet though... will wait until I'm actually on the water. Still uncertain about the ignition. Since I ran it only for a short while without the cowl on, it's unlikely that the electrical components would have gotten that hot.

Anyways, still willing to accept part numbers / diagrams.

btw, HighTrim, I'm in the suburbs of Ottawa

thanks. I wondered whether I could use the 55 part numbers since I can't find anything prior to that. I guess it goes the same for carb parts?

If the coils are cracked and original, you will have to replace them. Have you gone over the ignition yet?

Im sure I have the manual somewhere, Ill look through my files for you.

Re: '54 Fleetwin Ignition part numbers

I haven't done the ignition yet. It ran okay last year and the the year before. Last time out last year it seemed to drop a cylinder on WOT after a while but ran perfectly fine otherwise. Thought it might be fuel ( the connect leaks a bit on the air side), but priming had no effect.

Probably is the original coil for all I know. I plan to redo entire ignition, rebuild carb and do a conversion - but I have two boys that want to go fishing and only one motor so I'm hoping it can wait a while. I just finished resealing the L/U and changing the impeller. It was still the original seals on the D/S and prop shaft. Impeller had been changed though.

I found service manuals for '55 on, so I assume that it applies to a '54 except where obvious differences exist. This is a pretty basic motor - not too hard to service. My only concern has been part numbers - but if I can rely on the 55 part diagrams than I'm golden I guess.
