Hi everyone, I finally got the QD-15 I've been working on up and running. The problem is, when I took it out on the boat to try it out, it acted like the gears would slip into nuetral whenever I throttled above the stop position. Then when I would throttle down to around the start position again it would act like it kicked back into gear. Any thoughts about what is happening? Also if anyone has a link to how to change the impeller on this fine beauty it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Does it make any noise or clatter or anything when it comes out of gear? Or does just slip like spinning your wheels on the ice? If the latter, the prop hub bushing is probably slipping. Probably cheapest way to fix it is just replace the propeller.

To access the water pump, remove the little square plate from about halfway down the midsection. Behind it, you will find the shift rod connector. Remove one screw from the connector. Now remove the bolts that hold the lower unit to the midsection, and pull the lower unit down and away. The water pump will be right there looking at you.

It just slips out without any major sounds except for the motor Reving up all of a sudden. And than when I slow down it catches back.
If I do need to get a new prop, does anyone know of a good place to get some props for a low price? I've got 7 other 50's outboards that need props also

It sounds like a spun hub in the propeller. Easy to check - make a mark on the across the hub and the prop nut. Run the motor. If they are no longer aligned, it's spun.

Good props cost money. You can try used props from eBay - they're usually okay, but there's no guarantee that they're not spun out. Can be a crap shoot. If the prop you have is otherwise decent, a prop shop may be able to rehub it for you.
