I had posted on an earlier thread about my newly purchased 1954 Sea King 3hp. Based on what I learned from the last thread started, and knowing I want my kicker to be a runner not a show piece, I've done the following: I took the carb off and soaked it, cleaned it up nicely, cleaned and soaked the tank as well as tank filter, and put new mixed fuel in it. Got a new spark plug, which has a good fat blue spark and reassembled the tank and carb to try and get her running. (using the old float which is cut smaller than 1/8" clearance all around, but still floats)
Where I'm at now: Turn the fuel on and it floats the needle, turn primer knob and the lever pushes the needle down as desired but gas is gushing out of the small triangular hole that the needle floats up through, and continues to flow until you shut off the fuel at the tank or release the prime lever. Is this overflow because te float is too small or is gas not properly passing to the carb?
Also I do not believe this carb has both a slow and fast idle needle, at least I cant find a slow needle. All I see is this needle: http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2187769300090483972nDPRmA and this makes me wonder if that brown spacer is a stock part or an added adjustment tool to achieve a proper spacing. Does it have a slow needle? and if not should I be setting this single needle 3/4 to 1 turn out?
I can get her to fire on starting fluid, and the other day I thought I had it running on gas but it took off so fast I just cut it off and could never repeat the restart.
Small float size: http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2515091080090483972KZkcGu
Also, this motor came from the factory with a recoil but when I bought it there was no recoil on it, and I'm getting tired of winding my rope every time I try to start it. Does anyone have one to fit this motor or can you direct me to one?
Please advise me, anything will help.
