i just purchased a 1971 h55 horse chrys outboard and im trying to find out where the pee hole is located and whether it is working can anyone help please

had a '72 Chrysler (55hp), and recall there was no peehole. The only telltale was the water flow from the exhaust port on the rear of the leg. (You might see restricted flow until the engine warms up and the veratherm opens.)

Oldboat is right on. Your motor should sputter water from the exaust ports on the leg.<br />As long as it is spraying water with exaust, she is ok.<br />But since you just purchased this motor, I would advise you to drain and refill the lube in the lower unit. Drain it into a pan,and look for water contamination. The seals in these lower units are notorious for hardening and leaking at the propshaft and drive shaft.<br />The lube should be translucent green,or black.It should not be gray or peanutbutter milkshake-colored.<br /><br />If no water is found, refill using new gaskets on the "VENT/FILL" screws. <br />Also, decarb it often,as they build up carbon faster than most,it seems.
