55 HP Chrysler OB; shift rod disconnected

shift rod has come loose in lower unit. how do I access/remove lower unit? I tried removing six bolts, can't drop lower unit... how is drive shaft connected. how do i access shift rod?

drive shaft is splined. remove the covers below the power head there is a coupler in the shifter shaft under them

Check to see if there isn't a 7th bolt up inside the exhaust port at the rear. I have a 70HP and it has 7 bolts. As Norman said, the drive shaft is splined.

thank-you... i'll check for 7th bolt and remove covers below power head. thanks for the help..
