Hi, I've just aquired a 1968 Johnson 55 hp, Hydro-electric shift, and am in the process of going through things before I fire it up the first time. The prop is a little sloppy on the shaft, i.e., the prop bronze bushing is sloppy on the prop shaft. Also, I noticed that when I took the prop off, there was a home made
bronze spacer on the prop shaft, that keeps the prop from rubbing on the lower unit housing.

Q. How much "slop" is okay for the prop bushing to the prop shaft?

Q. Is there suppose to be a spacer on the prop shaft to keep the prop
from rubbing on the housing, or do I have the wrong prop?

Q. If I need a new prop, how do I know what diameter and pitch is
correct for this motor? The motor is on a 15', 1968 Silver Line, fiber glass
runabout.

Thanks for any help.... Nice Forum!
