I have a 1976 Johnson 55 hp with a hydraulic tilt. It threw a rod out the side of the case. I'm looking for another motor but got to thinking, ...
What other motors could I put on this tilt system?
I really like having tilt but a lot of motors I look at don't have it. Have no problem worrying it to a toggle switch. But how can I tell what other motors it will mount to?

Thank you for your time!

There are many newer powerheads that would bolt onto your midsection.

I didn't know that?
Do you think I could repair it myself for under 1000 dollars? Power heads seem to be very pricey. I'll need new pistons and rods at a minimum as well. That's kind of how I'm looking at it. If I can get a half decent motor or repair this one with newer parts for the same money I'm in! I'm not worried about my labor because it'll be in better shape than when I bought it!

Save that old power tilt and trim they are worth very good money on the used market! Not real difficult to remove either.

Just for perspective I recently paid 350.00 for a non-running 50hp Johnson just for that tilt unit. So that may help offset the cost of that new engine.
