I have a Johnson 55 HP (55ESL69A) and I am redoing all of the lower unit seals. The unit runs well enough but there was water in the lower unit oil so i decided to learn a bit about the engine and replace all the seals. I have replaced all of the oil seals and was working on replacing the gasket seal for the solenoid. I have the Seloc manual and was prepared for reinstalling the solenoids only to find out I have nothing that matches.
Online videos and eBay show a single rod with a plunger that appears to sit in a cavity at the bottom of the solenoid area to the hydraulic pump I believe. Another rod is supposed to slide through this one and be moved by the solenoids activating and shift the unit. The blue wire solenoid is on the bottom and the green is on the top.
My unit has the green solenoid on the bottom as a starter, not blue. I also have a spring assembly with a plunger the diameter of the cavity at the bottom of the solenoid holding area. I think that the plunger is what gets pushed down to shift, but am unable to get it to seat inside the cavity, i think with pressure it would go in. Not sure how deep it should go in the cavity. That piece is pushed onto the plastic gimbal with the rest of the assembly.
Any thoughts on how to seat this properly? Also if anyone knows if this is original or from a different engine with the same shift setup?
Thanks,
Joe
