What do you guys think of the 55hp Evinrude? Are parts easy to find and inexpensive? Are these motors reliable? Thanks

The boat is a 71, so I assume it is a 71. It is on a 15' open bow. Is this enough motor for the boat? Thanks

Re: 55hp Evinrude?

We had one on a work boat. It was a tiller handle, commercial model. Had pull start, a bigger gear case and was an absolute powerhouse.

The big problem we had was in the cold weather, the recoil would sometimes not re wind.

The engine was around 5 years old back then...it is prolly still running

Guesses won't do. There have been 2, 3 and 4 cylinder 'Rude 55s.

The model number should be on a plate riveted to the transom clamp.

I own one of those, it's a 2000 model, no problems at all.

As for the OP, like JB said, we need to know the exact info on the motor. There are a lot of variations of this hp between a wide range of years.
