I fired her up today and the carb seemed to run ok in the tank. She is not pumping water as nothing came out the exaust relief port and it just seemed too hot and too loud.I went to drop the lower to see what parts I need for a parts run and I cant get it to drop. There is no coupler like on my 75 rude.how do I disconnect The shift rod from the lever(at the power head) to get that sucker to drop out? I see why the later units have the coupler now!Anyone aaround old enough to have worked on these pups? ser 06688 mod 7520. Thanks-B

Old enough?? Man, I was old enough to drink beer when that thing was made. Anyhoo, to answer your question, you have to remove the powerhead to disconnect the shift rod. While you are in there, inspect the carbon seal that you will find at the top end of the drive shaft. It is a vital part, keeps water out of the crankcase. Make sure it is 100% good, and always use a new 303347 o-ring and 303355 gasket. Powerhead gasket is 304314 (18-2894 here at iboats)

And don't be whining it is too much work. Just 7 screws and fuel hoses to get the powerhead off.

Im going with the 303347-303355-277181-303339-300599-304314. The bearing housing seal turned to goo, prob why it aint holding pressure. Thanks again-B
