56 Evinrude 5.5hp Impeller Help

Hey Guy's have a quick question I ordered the parts for this motor all the part numbers are correct.But when I went to install the Impeller the one I have is way bigger then the one that was in the motor. Does anyone know if there is a different Impeller for this engine or kit. The part number I have is 18-3001.

What you have is a replacement water pump housing. I have no idea what impeller it uses, but its a much newer style. Sierra 18-3001 is the right impeller for a 1956 5.5 hp. Unfortunately, you'd need the original style pump housing to use it.

If you used the water pump kit number 391391, it utilizes a smaller impeller than the original design. I guess you were not the one to change the entire pump, since the kit comes with an impeller in it, that fits this new housing.

I believe the impeller part number for the above kit is #387361. It looks a lot like the one in the housing in your picture.
