Does anyone know where to get a tiller arm shaft, with cast fittings

What is the correct length, and or part no. of this shaft for a 56 15. Can it be swapped with a 10hp or 18hp shaft?

I have a different tiller arm,(stamped) which will not fit the one on the motor side(brass). - the one that goes to the gears).

The stamped one I have is 12 inches in length from end to end.

In other words.. I need a Johnson 1956 tiller arm , the kind with the brass shaft.

Thanks

Any 1956 and later tiller arm from will work. The tiller arm was used until about 1985 on many models. 10-18 hp are the same as yours. You can use the stamped gears, which as you know aren't as good, but you will also have to swap out the gear and shaft on the tiller bracket side. If you already have that gear I'd just swap it out and call it done.

The tiller gears are too expensive new. I'd look for a used set. There was a mid-year change in gears. I assume the year started with stamped gears p/n 376416 and then changed to p/n 376691 superceded to 377943. The first gears are NLA. You can special order them at $75. The later gears are still available from the dealer at about $50.
