Re: '56 Merc MK25E, where can you get controls?
Hi Saltydawg,
Actually, it can connect similar to a Johnson/Evinrude control with the right accessory connectors. The throttle will require an anchor point on the starboard side cowling and the access slot in the cowling (which may have a 4-inch long cap in it) would allow the throttle advance to connect. That connector on the throttle linkage would be a threaded rod with a T-pin in the end that the throttle cable would lock over.
The shift side is a little more complicated, as you'd need the U-shaped handle for the front of the motor. This handle would also incorporate the steering anchor point. There would be a triangular shaped pivot piece on one side of the handle that would then be attached to the shift handle that come out from under the carburetor. There should be a hole in the middle of that handle.
I am pretty sure that if you were to visit Grubb's Marine (
www.oldmercs.com) you could order a complete parts list for your motor, and ask if it has the remote linkage parts included in it. The parts list also includes blow-up diagrams.
- Scott
