If you really think you have a blockage try dropping the LU and holding a garden hose up to the copper water uptake tube. Turn the hose on high and see if water comes out of the exhaust port. If so, then you're good to go, if not then you may have a blockage in the tube or in the water passages. Sometimes the impellers can break down and get sucked up in to the water uptake tube to cause a blockage. Good luck. Keep us posted.

I`ll try that.I had a leak at that lower welch plugso i Know water is getting to there. When i replaced that plug, there was a piece of rubber.I just assumed it was from a old impeller.when removed it didn`t resemble anything like a impeller ear.

Ok,did the garden hose process, got water to come out of exhaust.Turned to the lower unit.Found the bottom side of the impeller had a small chunk missing, laying on the wear plate.Removed wear plate and layed on workbench. It was warped, bent, whatever.Took one out of a parts motor. It was near new.Reassembled with that wear plate and a new impeller.Pumping water now.Back to the loose welch plug.Any ideas what to do with that?

Hello again 3rdtime. Glad she's pumping water again. I'm not sure how you can "fix" a welch plug though :/ I supposes you could put a thin bead of JB weld around the perimeter of the plug to seal it. I'm pretty sure it would work, but you may never get it out again :/ Maybe you can remove it and replace it with and OEM plug?

I thought about j.b. weld. Or a rubber expandable plug like a automotive freeze plug.A friend said ping the edges of the plug with a punch.Grainger has welch plugs .You have to buy a life-time supply but they`re cheap.

You can also use high heat silicone on the welch plug. Also you can try to tap it in the middle with a hammer and a small socket to see if it will expand anymore to set better.

There's not a lot of pressure under the plug, so I'm guessing any decent sealant would work(and could be taken off in the future, if need be)

Installed welch plug.Went for a shake-down cruise.Slow leak at first then after about 15 minutes it quit.Going out for a longer cruiser later on with my fingers crossed and my always dependable` 54 5horse Sea King just in case.
