Well tonight I started the daunting task of removing the coated topside everyone says is some what difficult to remove.
I am trying a method that I read on the internet where you spread "Aircraft Stripper" liberally and cover with wax paper to slow the evaporation process and extend the period that the stripper has to work on the coating. This seems to work better then not covering it. let it cook for about 15 minutes per area then remove the wax paper for about 10 minutes befor scraping. Also, I tried plastic scapers but they did very little against the stubborn coating. Settled for a steel scraper and a few scratches to buff out later. You develop a technique for removal - mine was a combination of scraping and pulling off the loose material at the same time. Of course it isn't perfect the first go over but the stubborn leftovers come off easy the second time around.
I was amazed at the aluminum under most of this coating. Allot of it still had a brilliant factory shine (and some of it, not so much). But I'm very happy!
