Took the boat out with the 35 on it to the river, maiden trip with this motor,
ran great , only issue was with the high speed adjustment walking away from setpoint. got home and tightened packing nut. pretty tight, affraid to tighten any more, can I add packing material on top of whats there? or do I have to get rebuild kit to get new packing material ?

will order a kit, will I have to remove the air intake box or just pull the packing nut off then replace packing material?

When you go to remove the old packing, it can sometime's be very difficult to remove. I made a small hook by using a short length of control cable, but any stiff wire will work. Bend over the end like a crochet hook, and grind it flat, not to a point, as this would gouge the aluminum threads in the carb body. For the real stubborn one's that are dried out, I use a 7/16-20 tap with the point ground off like a bottoming tap. This will cut the old packing out, and clean the thread's. If you do this, you must remove the soft plug at the top of the carb so that you can reverse blow out the cutting's. A new plug is included in the carb kit.

You should be able to get the little packing rings at 75 cents for the 2 that you need. And yes you can just stick an extra little packing washer on top of the others.
