Anyone have a Link to an exploded view of the 1958 7.5 hp Elgin West Bend? I need to learn the ignition components and the location of these parts. From the info i've researched, if i understand correctly, there's the magneto, the coil, the points and i believe a timing plate...where are these components located, under the flywheel?

yes.

Well you might as well learn the correct terninology. "Magneto" refers to the whole ignition system. It consists of two coils, two breaker point sets, two condensers, two spark plug wires, all mounted on an armature plate or mag plate, whichever you want to call it. All is under the flywheel. There are magnets in the flywheel, also part of the magneto.

Thanks very much for the education! I was wondering about the term "magneto" because i am familiar with how these systems work. The magnets in the flywheel collapses the secondary coil field creating voltage, the points controls how much and how long that voltage is supplied to the spark plug, the condenser is there to help break that voltage (or spark) at the point contacts to prevent overheating and burning the point contacts...SO, i was wondering about this "magneto" deal...Now i know!
