The original wiring has finally deteriorated to the point of needing replaced. Unable to find NOS wiring. Leary of used harness. I am not restoring or care if it has the correct harness.

Has anyone updated the electrical connectors and rewired the starting wiring?
It seems simple enough. Just would like to know what some of you have done.

Thanks.

i just did a 58 35 hp did not have the connection box. Should be same principle.

pos cable to solenoid then pos to starter, ground battery to engine ground. i used 3 push buttons instead of ignition switch. hot feed from battery to 2 buttons, 1 button feeds back to solenoid to activate starter, #2 button is positive feed to electric choke solenoid. #3 button i tied the 2 kill wire to each side, so when pushed it kills the spark, to shut the engine down.

I've done a couple like TD. Simply hard wired the cables right to the motor rather than using the plug, running them out through the bottom cowling. For smaller stuff like a cut-off or choke wiring if you're using remote controls, you can include a small 2- or 4-prong plug like you'd use on a trailer rat-tail just to make it a bit easier to remove the motor.

I've re-wired 2 motors. In both cases, I sheathed the wiring in shrink tubing whenever possible. I used a male trailer connector on the engine side, just outside the engine cowl; and a female connector on the end of the helm wiring (or vice versa, I forget). This way, I can disconnect and remove the engine from the boat.
