Thanks F_R - Yup, found it. The indentation is the width of the speed control lever. When the lever aligns with the indentation, the carb butterfly just starts opening on mine, so no adjustment was needed. I was hoping that might be causing a miss or hiccup in my motor. It's not a lean sneeze, and the carb is not the problem. It was recently rebuilt and I opened it up again and it was clean as a whistle. It'a also not water in the gas, as I just got fresh gas. So I suspect ignition. Coils and wires were new last summer but points and condensers weren't replaced when I did the coils. I just filed and cleaned the points. Ran fine until last week when the miss developed. She still starts easy and never dies - just misses a beat now and then. So today, I replaced the condensers and points with new (factory BRP). So we'll see how she runs now.
