I replaced all the ignition on my 5 1/2hp rude coils, points, condenser.

How do you know if the coils are close enough to the magnet? I'm not getting a spark turning it by hand with the fly wheel on... I tried getting a spark without the flywheel on the that doesn't work either.

Where does the piece of felt go ? The parts list it a oil wick.

I've looked in the top secret file and found a picture of the felt in "Points and cond " What holds it in place?

Here is my first post about this motor.http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=433392

The laminated edge of the coil must be flush with the mounting boss. Simple as that. If it sticks out too far, or not far enough, the engine won't run properly.

I got to hear it run today:D:D Got it to fire up on about the 5th pull. The coils were busted open. The carb has gas leaking out of it the water pump didn't pump and the gas tank pumper leaks. Still got some work 'but it was nice to at least know its going in the right direction.
