Yes, some of you may have read that I have an FD-22M causing me problems. I put that on hold for now and am trying to finish up work on the above motor. I have worked on several motors over the past 2 yrs or so and disconnected/reconnected the cam follower linkage to the throttle shaft linkage without a hitch..... until today. I can not get my linkage from the Cam Follower Arm to the Throttle Shaft hooked up properly. When I do get it hooked, it's as if the throttle shaft linkage or shaft itself is almost upside down. I know the throttle shaft is in the carb correctly; I didn't do anything to the shaft. I also know the link between the cam follower arm and throttle shaft arm is the correct one. The only possibility I can come up with is that I swapped out the cam follower arm with one from one different motor. So, I tried installing that arm, and it doesn't work either. So......... if any of you great folks out there have the same motor or very compatible one, I would greatly appreciate it if you could post, PM, or email (polefroggy1@gmail.com) a couple pics of the linkage so I can try to figure out what the heck is wrong. I have a feeling it is something really easy, but after 2 hrs of trying to figure it out I am very frustrated. Thank you to all who respond!

The only suggestion I have is to swap the ends around and make sure the screw seats against the round part of the butterfly valve shaft

Re: '59 Evinrude #10018 10hp Cam Follower Linkage Problem

how difficult is it to open and close the throttle shaft w/o any linkage hooked to it?..does it bind anywhere going from throttle butterfly closed to horizontal?....I ask b/c I experienced exactly what you are going through. I bought a new bellcrank, linkage rod, and connector for the throttle shaft. I do recall setting it with the link in the hole closest to the throttle shaft and adjusting it with the timing roller at wot and the throttle butterfly horizontal.

Didn't fix a thing..throttle shaft still bound as this would pull it slightly rearward in the throttle shaft bores as they were worn in this direction. No new throttle shaft available. I bought a 1960 Johnson 10 hp . w/o a lower unit and, lo and behold, all the throttle linkage was shifted from the port side to the starbard...throttle shaft linkage to carb distance was much shorter : no binding.

The above mentioned parts I found at marineengine.com...< vintage means pricey >....also, I scoured google images for any pics of a 1959 10 hp. hoping to see something with the linkage shown...nothing close. Maybe ebay has an add with pics?

AITn: it opens and closes easily, but can't remember if there is any kind of binding at all. will have to check for that. Will let you know, hope to get to it tomorrow. Thanks!

UPDATE: got the linkage taken care of today... YAY!!! Needed to put the magneto on to see just how it all fit together and things just fell into place... gotta work on renovating mother-in-law's bathroom the next few days, but will let ya all know what happens when I try to test her out in the drum... Again, thanks for your help!
