59 Johnson 35hp what to set the compresion release

I have looked and looked in the Intertec service manual but cant find what to set the the valve gap at. Ya know the space between the leaver and valves in the back of the cylinder head. Any help out there ?

if you cannot find the correct gap for the compresion release, then set the rocker just against the valve it should NOT have presure against it enuf (enough) to hold the valve open even when hot! It should open when rope started, maybe some one has the setting or can give you more details for setting it, that is how I set the release valves on my dirt bikes! You do not want them to leak when running.<br />Richard

Thanks rwise if I can't find the exact gap width I will give it a shot. Do you know what damage if any could be caused if the gap is incorrect ?

if it is open it will loose compresion, and may not run, if it doesn't a litle when you pull start it it may kick back or just be really hard to pull. I will pull the lid off mine and see if I can get a gap mesurement.

I have a 1959 dealer's repair manual.<br /><br />The gap range is .018-.025.
