Some of you may remember this thread, about my '59 QD-20. Turns out that the bolts that held the aftermarket/upgraded fuel pump to the bracket were #12's, when someone had tapped the bolt holes to 1/4", and the pump lost it's vacuum seal during that voyage. Because the pump mounting bolt holes were bored out to accept up to a #12, I had to drill the pump out so I could get the 1/4" bolts through it. I got that taken care of, and had my fingers crossed that that was the problem.
Fast forward to today. I went out and picked up a 13'6" Sears Gamefisher (I love craigslist), and brought her home. Dropped her in the water, put the Johnny on, mounted the tank, and pulled. And pulled... and pulled. Nothing.
Thought maybe it was the primer bulb, borrowed a new one from the neighbor, dragged the engine up the dock and mounted it to the kicker bracket on the other boat, and... SHAZAM! Started on the second pull! Put her back on the tinny, and again started right up, and ran great for the hour I was tooling around the canal/bay. Max speed (GPS) was 21mph. I'm pleased.
So now I have a pseudo-flats boat that takes 6 gals to fill, and I can get back to fishing and boating on a daily basis.
