Found a 1959 evenrude lark 35, don't know if it will run, but it is fully intact, not locked up feels like it has compression when using the auxillary pull rope. Any ideas on how much to offer under these conditions?

Re: 59 Lark

If it doesn't run and hasn't for quite a few years, I wouldn't give much more then junk price. It's to old a motor to take a huge chance with IMO. Now on the other hand, if you got a chance to do a more thorough inspection, and it checks out decent, compression, ignition, lower unit, electrical I wouldn't go past a few hundred bucks.

Re: 59 Lark

Thanks, i know it's a classic, but don't want to risk a lot on it. The people are actually asking $150 for the whole boat. I believe the boat and motor are original to eachother and therefore the same age. Th boat is a fairly plain fibergrass Lamar craft. been sitting outside under a tree for many moons and actually has poison ivy growing in it. The trailer is in good condition but has no tires or wheels. windshield is salvagable and the control cables seem to be locked up, although the steering still works. I was most interested in the motor, but could maybe sell off the other stuff and wind up with a free motor, but of course there is no gaurantee I can sell everyting else for the same price they are asking for motor and all. I think the trailer with wheels and tires is worth that and I have some old wheels and tires for it. But still....I guess it's all a gamble

You won't get hurt for that price. Those old Larks are great motors. I happen to own several of the same class motors, including two Larks. If the boat and motor are original to each other, that will make it a better investment. Below is a motor that almost went for "junk" I say get it and fix it up.

1946Zephyr is right about the price. For a complete combo that's a good bargain.

Thanks Guys, I'm going back today to most likely get it and see if I can buy it for $100.00 (Hey can't blame a guy for asking) the boat is pretty rough.

If you can get that motor for btw $100-$150 go for it. Assuming the compression is good you can get it purring like a kitten for another 50 years for less than $100 and you can get all the parts right here at iboats. Here are some great links to help walk you through a tune up. Good luck. Holler if you get stuck.

If it has a good wiring harness and solenoid box, that is worth $100 alone.

Re: 59 Lark

Okay Guys, I know it has been a while since I started this, but it took some real cautious sweet talking to get the old lady to sell/give it to me, so I had to take my time. Anyway I got the boat and all for some trade out work by me at a later date, so I have a bill of sale and the boat in my possession as I type with no out of pocket money at all. Now I am trying to decide what to do with it. She told me her father bought it new in the late 60's and the motor came off another boat he had before. I'm pretty sure the motor is a 59 and it is a 35 hp Evinrude Lark all intact, but I haven't tryed to start it. The boat is a 15 ft Lamar built by central boat works out of Texas but I can't find much info on it. Anybody have some info. on these boats? I'm posting pictures in just a few more min.

Yea, that motor looks pretty darned good. I'm willing to bet it's been pretty well cared for. I believe it will definately come back to life with a good tune up. I would do the entire ignition system, carb, fuel pump, impeller and the lower unit seals, unless it's actually keeping the water out. Most of them leak a little though after all these years. Nice motor! You'll love running it. :D

Really has a good thump to it when pulling on the rope, so I think it will be fine. Do you agree that it is a 1959?

Re: 59 Lark

Thanks, I wasn't sure. I thought I had seen somewhere that particular style Lark 35 was made for only two years and I thought I remembered that 1959 was one of those years. So. 1958 it is. Thanks again.
