Just picked up the Lightwin I bought on eBay and it's everything I was hoping for, and more. Turns out it's not a '63 as the seller thought (because he had a '63 owners manual with it), but a '59 model 3030, which suits me fine, the older the better as far as I'm concerned!
It does need a thorough overhaul, coils are cracked, points and condensors are new though, top crank seal seems good, carb needs a rebuild and the low speed needle will need re-machining.
Recoil spring is broken 2" from the end, easy to fix, apparently no water in the lower unit but the oil is kind of grey and gungy looking, probably hasn't been changed for a long time!
It's had a welding job done on the transom bracket, not very elegant and it's going to need some work with a grinder to get it looking good, but at least the weld seems sound.
I haven't pulled the lower unit to check the impeller yet, but the owner had never changed it in 5 years, so that will definitely be replaced!
One thing I'd like to know is if decals are available for this year? I checked American Outboard and they list '58 Lightwin decals but no illustration, are there other decal suppliers who I haven't found yet?
