i am rebuilding a 67 5hp evinrude and i have got the carb rebuild kit. I have the seloc manuel for this motor and have follower the directions on rebuilding the carb. I have put in the new float, needle, and seat. I have replaced the fiber washers in the low speed needle hole. I pulled the high speed orifice plug off and there was nothing inside. Is there supposed to be a high speed orifice in the hole?. Another question is i have extra parts left over from the rebuild kit and have no idea were they go. There is a big and a small concave aluminum circle, and a rather fat very thick black O-ring and i have no idea where they go. And one more question. on the top of the carb there is a little button looking piece of aluminum. What is that for and is it suposed to come of? I have rebuilt every thing on this entire motor and the carb is the only thing left to fix and the, ho0pefull by the grace of god it'll run smoothe.

Searching for answers,
evinrude toruble

OK,, where to start....

I have not personally rebuilt your carb, but many follow the same rebuilt steps. Those 'extra' parts are just that. Your kit covers a few different models, some parts will not be used in your application.

The 2 aluminum 'discs/plug' (only one is needed) is for the low speed idle circuit. It should be located on the top of the carb. The existing disc is removed, either by drilling a small hole in it, or punching an ice pick thru it and prying it out with an ice pick type tool. If drilling, be careful not to drill too deep. The cavity below the plug is shallow. Clean out the cavity underneith the plug making sure the 2 small holes are open. Place the proper size aluminum plug, convex side up, in the opening and seat with a flat faced drift. Flattening the disc/plug effects the seal.

Another option to removing and replacing the disc/plug, is to remove the low speed idle needle and spray carb cleaner into the needle seat using the spray extention tube that came with the can of carb cleaner. You should see cleaner exiting the 2 small holes in the carb throat if they are clear.

The fat O-ring could be the Boss gasket. This gasket seals the drop tube in the main carb body from the bowl. Without this gasket, getting the motor it idle smoothly will be almost impossible. Raw fuel will be drawn into the motor, bypassing the slow speed idle circuit .

Be sure to soak/clean all parts with carb cleaner, air dry with compressed air before re-assembly. Use no sealers on the gaskets.

i replaced the boss gasket. When i opend the carb up there was no gasket, it had deteriorated to nothing, which i'm guessing is probably why it didnt run smoothe at all. Thanks for your help with the little metal disk thingy
