5hp Briggs wont stay running @ idle

it stays running at higher speeds, but not at idle or close to idle??? i sprayed carb cleaner in it, and into the jet, checked the float and replaced the fuel filter. its like its not getting enough gas or miss firing but on one plug, it makes a few lil pop noises when at idle and dies?

Single cylinder engine??? How old, electronic ignition or points? How long has this sat around with old fuel? Was it put away with ethanol fuel? What did the plug look like? Do I dare ask about a compression check?

See if a little choke helps it stay running.If on a remote tank see if squeezing
the primer bulb helps.If they help it indicate a fuel delivery problem.
