OK, I got my little 5hp (two stroke) where it would turn over last night. I removed the spark plug each time and it had that beige foamy gunk on it. This stuff is watery and has only a light smell of petrol.

I got the bright idea to thread a strip of cotton cloth into the cylinder and gently swab the inside of the cylinder (my father would have killed me if he saw me do that!). More of the runny beige stuff. After a couple of swabbings, the engine ran, but it would only run for a few cycles and choke out. Again, the spark plug was fouled with this beige stuff. I left the engine out of water over night, hanging over dry pavement.

When I got home tonight, there was a puddle of the beige stuff that had obviously dripped from the exhaust. The puddle was thick, about the size of puppy puke, and looked similar as well.

Thoughts?? Does my engine have salmonella poisioning?? The coil may be overheating, but I think that there is something else going on. I suppose the beige stuff is fuel/oil that is not burning. If so, has anyone else witnessed this from a malfunctioning coil??

Thanks.

You might want to do or get a compression test done on the motor. You may be getting water into the cylinder. If compression tests okay you may not be getting a good strong spark. The beige substance you are describiing sounds like what unburned exhaust looks like. Kinda looks like water mixed with lower unit oil but smells like gas.

Part II????

It would be a lot easier to help if we knew what you started with, Deacon.
