That's a 57 5 hp Sea King made for Mont. Wards by Gale...a division of OMC/Evinrude. Try your question on the Ask A Member board at www.aomci.org.

Hi Richard<br />tim is correct you have a 1957 5 hp model, maade by OMC's Gale divison. The Gale equivlent model# is 5D14, the Johnson mod# is CD14. On this model you need to remove the power head to gain access to detatch the shift rod. You will also need a new power head base gasket. I believe OMC offered this basic model from 1954 to 1964 with few changes.

Richard, Don't know if I can be much help but I have a 1963 5 HP seaking, I am in Riverside Mo. E-mail rayb0943@att.net. I dont think mine is the same as yours from looking at my shop manuel. My manuel covers 56-70 1 and 2 cyl. Johnrudes. My shift lever attaches at in the lower unit. Good luck

I imagine removing the powerhead sounds like a daunting task. Truth is they're suprisingly easy. You probably don't have to do much more than disconnect a couple of hoses and remove the 8 or so bolts from underneath. The rest comes straight up as a unit and that part weighs about the same as a watermelon. The hardest part is chiseling the old gasket off. Just be careful not to mar the aluminum too bad. You'll notice some parts on the top of the driveshaft. Pay close attention to them and be careful with the spring retainer. It's very brittle.
