Yesterday while boating in a lake completely full of timber, I hit a log at about 5 mph. The engine runs fine now, and will rev a lot higher because it's not getting power to the prop. The prop does still spin some with the engine running, but not enough to go anywhere. It can also be spun both ways freely with the engine off. What could I have done to it?

Remove the prop and check for a broken drive (shear) pin.

Thank you, that's what it was. Do you guys usually just order OEM pins or make your own? If the latter, what do you make it out of? I made my own out of a piece of 1/8" steel but I think it may be too tough.

You never did say which 5hp Johnson we are talking about here. There are lots of different years.models of 5hp Johnsons, taking different pins.

If it is a 1/8" pin, it probably is stainless steel. If so, you can get a one-foot piece of stainless steel rod at Ace Hardware and hacksaw off a bunch of pins. That's what I do.

Woops, rookie mistake. It's a 1965, and yeah it's a 1/8" piece of steel. I had a 1/8" stainless rod so I cut it to length and used that. My concern was that it might be too strong, but I'm probably way off track.
