Hey guys, I am having an issue with my 5hp mariner 2-stroke, it is a early 80's model and is basically still as good as new as it has not been used alot over the years but always well maintained, but this motor has always had this bad temper. I gave the motor a good service, cleaned the carb, the carb setting is perfect, but it does not wanto idle, if I keep the revs high it will stay running but it will not idle, it will starve for fuel the moment the revs drop, I have adjusted the carb but it does not change, still no idling, anyone have any ideas what to try next?

So you pulled and cleaned the carb? Low speed jet (and throttle valve) is reset to initial settings from manual? Sure choke is disengaging? Sounds like your not getting enough fuel ( or too much air)
One of the tricks I use to verify it's fuel starvation is to put some 50;1 mix in a old ( cleaned) Windex bottle and spray it down the throat of the carb as it wants to stall. If revs pick up, it's either starving for fuel ( or you have a air leak.) in either case, sounds like the carb needs to come off again.
